ABOUT

Soloist

Philip was born in 1992 in Eastbourne. At the age of 7 he started his first piano lessons with Seka Becejac. He joined the Purcell School in 2005, where he studied under the guidance of Tatiana Sarkissova. In March 2006 he received 1st Prize in Hickies, Reading Symphony Orchestra Young Musician of the year. As a result of this, he was invited to perform Mendelsohn’s ‘Capriccio Brillante’ with the RSO later that year.

Between 2007-08, he was involved in the Purcell composers’ concert in the Wigmore Hall, as part of a collaboration with the NASH ensemble and took part in a Scarlatti Piano Marathon at the RNCM. Philip was later selected to give a solo recital at the Wigmore Hall in September 2008. Under invitation from Purcell’s Director of Music, he performed a number of chamber and solo works at the Liston Music Festival 2010. He has enjoyed numerous performance opportunities, such as governors’ concerts and external recitals around the UK, including a lunchtime recital at St Martin in the Fields.

Philip’s foundation in outreach work began with IMPULSE (Diana award recipient), and has since become a core part of his musical career. He toured southern England with IMPULSE, leading workshops with children and performing to retired naval officers. In 2011, he accepted a place at the Royal Academy of Music, where he began his studies with Carole Presland. The Open Academy has enabled him to continue working with music in the community, leading various projects in schools and working with dementia patients through ‘Raise Your Voice’ at Glyndebourne Opera. As a passionate chamber musician he has also worked extensively with cellist Hannah Innes, with whom he regularly performs at Newbold College of Higher Education. Over the years, he has performed in masterclasses with acclaimed professors such as Dmitri Aleexev, Martino Tirimo, Christopher Elton, Pascal Nemirovski and William Fong.
